Davenport hand painted bone china dessert basket and stand

About the Item

This bone china dessert basket and stand by Davenport is decorated with their hand painted "Table" pattern, in the Chinoiserie style. The basket features gilt twig handles and pierced walls and this piercing is echoed in the stand. Around the rim of both pieces are hand painted sprays of flowers with gilt highlights. Both pieces are in excellent condition, with the colours still vivid and the gilding showing very little wear. The stand is 262 mm (10.25 inches) long and 197 (7.75 inches) mm wide. The basket is 280 mm (11 inches) long (including the handles), 170 mm (6.75 inches) wide and stands 110 mm (4.25 inches) high. Neither piece is marked, but examples are shown in plate 63, page 72 of Terry Lockett's "Davenport Pottery & Porcelain 1794-1187", page 215 of J & M Cushion's "A Collectors History of British Porcelain" and in C Duckworth's "Davenport Ceramic Marks 1794-1887". C1805-15.
