Doulton Burslem hand coloured part dessert set decorated with orchids
About the Item
This Doulton Burslem part dessert set comprises six plates and a low comport. All pieces feature raised, moulded depictions of a variety of orchids which have been hand coloured and sit nicely against the white porcelain body. The scalloped rim has been gilding and just below the rim is a very intricate edging printed in gold. The plates and the comport have a diameter of 225 mm (8.75 inches) while the comport, sitting on its gilded triangular feet, stands 75 mm (3 inches) high. There are a few areas where the enamel has been lost to the high points of the design. The backs carry the Doulton Burslem mark and the painted pattern number C 641. This pattern would have been introduced in the mid to late 1880's, and the mark indicates that this set dates from 1885-1890.
