Pair hand painted Doulton Burslem footed bowls
About the Item
These square, shallow Doulton Burslem porcelain bowls feature sprays of delicately hand painted flowers to the centre, while the border is composed of raised paste arabesques in cream, a painted border of pale blue and an intricate gilt border with more gilding to the rim, and they rest on four gilded feet. Both pieces carry the pattern number HB 2731, which shows that the designer was Herbert Betteley, a painter and designer at Doulton Burslem from 1886-1930 who specialised in intricate gold patterns. They also carries Doulton's pattern number C 7642, which indicates this pattern was first introduced in 1896. The condition is very good but there is some very slight rubbing to the gilding on the rims and a 10 mm (3/8ths of an inch) long scratch to one of the central sprays. They measure 208 mm (8.25 inches) square and stand 50 mm (2 inches) high. One carries the impressed date stamp for January 1900 and the other for January 1901.
