Flora Danica Game Series Covered Vegetable Dish

About the Item

This covered porcelain vegetable dish is part of the exceptionally rare Flora Danica Game Series by the renowned Royal Copenhagen. Flora Danica is known worldwide for its intricate and highly detailed illustrations of the native flowers of Denmark. This dish, however, was crafted as part of a very rare series painted with woodland animals. The present example is adorned with an illustration of a red squirrel on one side and European hare on the other, and, as with all Flora Danica pieces, the animals' Latin names, Sciurus vulgaris and Lepus europaeus, are written on the reverse. The hand-painted motif is perfectly complemented by vibrant gilt borders and handles made to look like branches. Down to its last detail, the dish demonstrates why Flora Danica is among the most beloved porcelain patterns ever created. Features the Royal Copenhagen mark and style number #239/3568 20th century Measures: 6 3/4" high x 9 5/16" diameter.
