18th Century Derby Porcelain Vase with May Blossom Decoration

About the Item

Derby Porcelain Shaped Vase with May Blossom Decoration, circa 1770-1775 The four-sided shaped Baluster vase and cover with square-shaped neck and foot is designed with a design of multiple applied tightly packed May blossoms or Mayflowers (Schneeballen) with yellow stamen and a tint of aqua blue to the edge of each flower while the ground behind has a light purple wash creating a stunning effect after the Meissen Schneeballen ware. Encircling the vase is a leafy vine with green leaves and clusters of bright red berries. The domed finial of the cover is similarly decorated except there is only a cluster of red berries surrounded by leaves as the handle. The foot and the edge of the cover's rim are painted with a gold and white scalloped design. Dimensions: 8 3/4 inches high x 3 1/2 inches x 3 1/2 inches wide. Reference: Derby Porcelain, 1750-1798, Gilbert Bradley, Page 101, #48 for a garniture of three vases almost identical to this one which is in the Derby Museum & Art Gallery. (See attached photo).
