About the Item

Hand-painted circa 1800, this porcelain sugar box by Chamberlains Worcester features the elegant 'Thumb and Finger' pattern, rendered in deep cobalt blue and enriched with fine gilding. The surface is decorated with vibrant floral motifs, including iron-red water lilies framed by lush green leaves. Its vivid palette and striking composition embody the confident style and refined craftsmanship that distinguish Chamberlains Worcester porcelain of the early 19th century. Pieces from this period are celebrated for their decorative flair and technical finesse—both beautifully expressed in this example.. The combination of design and color is fabulous! Marks: Inside the cover is the Chamberlains Worcester No 276 mark in puce (the mark was in use from 1786 to 1810). Dimensions: 7″ across the handles x 4″ wide x 5″ to the top of the finial Condition: Excellent with the very slightest rubbing on the top of the finial (see images). Price: $ 780 Background of Chamberlains Worcester: Robert and Humphrey Chamberlain established their porcelain factory in Worcester in 1793 after successfully decorating and gilding porcelain from the original Worcester factory. During the Regency Period, Chamberlains Worcester enjoyed royal patronage. The factory gained fame for its artistry, producing many patterns inspired by 18th-century Japanese and Chinese wares.
