Antique Staffordshire Figure of a Standing Lioness by Dale & Co

About

A rare pottery pearlware figure of a lioness standing on a green base. The figure is expressively modelled and decorated. The piece was intended to be made with bocage; this feature is missing and left the pottery with this intention. This original feature is one of the aspects which make early Staffordshire pottery so appealing with its touch of humanity and does not detract from its decorative appeal. Provenance: Private Collection Ireland Literature: Page 157 figure ref. 126.65 Staffordshire Figures Volume 3 by Myrna Schkolne.
