About the Item
An engaging cat, holding a mouse in its paw, while a second mouse escapes into a cheese.
These small 'toys' are scarce, being easily lost. They were largely hand made, and so were not produced in great numbers. It is interesting to note that other examples each have the cat's paw in a different position.
Provenance: Elizabeth Adams Collection.
A pair of similar cats is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. nos.414:33/A-1885 and 414:33-1885).
