About the Item
Chamberlain Worcester Porcelain Crested Fruit Coolers, Covers and Liners,
The crest on the coolers – ‘a phoenix in flames.’ could be that of the St Clair family of Staverton Court, Gloucestershire,
Circa 1813-16
The circular footed fruit coolers have wide bands of an orange ground with large flowers in white, and gold to the foot, the center and the top of the cover. The two handles are in the form of shells and the finial is a gilded dolphin. The edge of the cover has a pierced raised gallery. The interior of the liners is painted with a white flower head with orange and gilt details behind.
Dimensions: 13 inches high x 10 inches wide x 8 1/2 inches deep; (33.02cm high x 25.4cm deep)
Marks: Inside the cover of one is a red script "Chamberlains Worcester". On the interior of the second cover is the mark in black of Chamberlains/ Worcester/ 63 Piccadilly/ London below a black crown.
In 1813 Chamberlain opened a London showroom at 63 Piccadilly, moving to 155 New Bond Street in 1816.
Condition: One liner has a repaired break to the rim of the liner. One handle has a chip to the underside of a handle and there is another smaller chip to the edge of a handle on the other cooler to the outside, now both invisibly repaired as is a hairline to one liner.

The original name of the Regiment was "Colonel Edmund Fielding's Regiment of Invalids", raised in 1719 from out-pensioners of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, for garrison duty "at home".
