About the Item
Chinese porcelain octagonal plate for export. Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795).
Polychrome decoration with flowers and fruits. This Chinese porcelain plate belongs to the export porcelain tradition, created to meet the growing European demand in the 18th century. The piece features a vibrant combination of cobalt blue, orange, pink and gold tones, standing out for its richness of detail and the balance of its composition.
In the center of the plate, there is a decorative arrangement that includes a ritual incense burner on a table, accompanied by flowering branches and stylized fruits, a motif often associated with spirituality and prosperity in Chinese culture. The surrounding floral elements give lightness and dynamism to the design, creating a sophisticated and harmonious visual effect.
The rim of the plate is richly ornamented with intricate patterns, mixing auspicious Chinese symbols, arabesques, geometric elements and stylized floral representations. The presence of Buddhist wheels suggests the influence of Chinese religious and philosophical themes, while the deep blue arabesques reinforce the characteristic aesthetic of export porcelain.
The decorative technique used combines traditional underglaze blue painting with colored glazes applied later, creating a refined polychromatic effect. The detailed contour and vivid tones highlight the high quality of the workmanship, possibly from Jingdezhen, the largest porcelain production center in China.
Pieces like this plate were widely purchased by Europeans in the 18th century and were part of luxurious dinner services. The harmonious design and richness of the decorative elements make this piece a beautiful example of Chinese export and decorative porcelain.
