About the Item
Chinese porcelain octagonal plate for export. Polychrome decoration with flowers and peacocks, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795).
In the center is painted with an ethereal and delicate touch, where two peacocks of safe blue and green colors seem to walk through the flowers. Its dynamic position, combined with the movement of the leaves and flowers around it, gives the piece an elegant and fluid appearance. The surrounding flowers are painted in shades of red, pink, green and orange, contrasting gently with the translucent white porcelain background.
The octagonal rim of the plate is decorated with a pattern of scattered flowers and branches, visually connecting the central decoration to the edge of the piece. Small flowers in shades of blue, red and green alternate on the eight sides of the plate, creating a symmetrical and balanced effect. The presence of golden or orange touches in some floral elements suggests an additional refinement, characteristic of pieces commissioned for European nobility.
The octagonal shape of this dish is relatively rare and reflects a Western influence, possibly inspired by European dinnerware shapes of the period. This piece bears witness to the adaptation of Chinese porcelain to European tastes, blending Eastern decorative tradition with Western elements in a sophisticated stylistic fusion that was highly appreciated in 18th-century global trade.
