Chinese Porcelain Teapot Polychrome Decoration

About the Item

Chinese porcelain teapot. Polychrome decoration with floral motifs, birds and colourful geometric patterns on a white background and painted in vivid shades of green, pink, orange, blue and gold, the sides show Chinese symbols in red inside circular medallions. In the centre, there is a continuous band of flowers, branches and fruit, with golden details, the lid has the same type of decoration and is topped with a small golden button, the spout and handle also have golden touches. The shape of the teapot is rounded and low, with a narrow base. It's a piece with a decoration known as the ‘Rose Family’, popular in China during the 18th and 19th centuries and widely exported to Europe. This teapot is an example of decorative art, designed more for display than for frequent use.
