Derby Porcelain Botanical Dessert Plate Pattern 216 with Clematis c1800

About the Item

Botanical themes became a firm favourite at Derby when copies of Curtis's Botanical Magazine arrived in 1791. Some years later the factory also purchased a a copy of water colourist John Edwards' tome "A collection of Flowers". This was a more naturalistic style than that observed in Curtis. Services with blue Derby marks inspired by both Curtis and Edwards were made for approximately 20 years until the end of the first decade of the 19th century. This is more in the manner of Curtis.
