French, 18th century, Louis XV, ormolu mounted pair of Chinese teacups. In an age when France was enamored of all things oriental, fine Chinese porcelain was often mounted in gilt bronze, and decorative vessels were repurposed as potpourri vases, candy dishes, or simply as beautiful decorative additions to a room. This lovely pair came from a chateau near Geneva.
