About the Item

Gorgeous "Les Toilés" placemats, designed by Patrick Frey in Limoges porcelain in the 1990s. Sold in sets of 6 pieces. They feature a non-uniform maroon enamel design and a textured yet smooth finish, simulating a pattern with fine, crisscrossing lines, similar to a fabric or linen effect. This effect is a nod to the textile tradition of the brand founded by Pierre Frey, father of Patrick Frey, internationally known for its decorative fabric design. It features a slight central depression and a flat edge, providing a simple and elegant design without sacrificing functionality. Glossy finish. Signature on the back: "Patrick Frey. Paris. "Les toilés," in addition to the Limoges mark of origin, certifying its provenance. About Patrick Frey Patrick Frey is the artistic director of Pierre Frey, a company founded by his father, Pierre Frey, in 1935, renowned for the diversity and boldness of its creations. It has firmly established itself in the luxury sector as the unparalleled master of upholstery fabrics, wallpapers, carpets, and furniture. Maison Pierre Frey represents a lifestyle dedicated to art and culture, with nearly 100 years of presence in the luxury sector, decorating hotel, home, and boutique interiors, and collaborating on museum exhibitions with its heritage. More about Limoges Porcelain The history of the most famous French porcelain factory begins in 1768, when important artifacts were discovered in Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, near Limôges. Kaolin deposits. This delicate white clay would prove decisive in the creation of porcelain of such high quality that it would come to be compared to Chinese porcelain, then considered the finest in the world. Thus began the development of a new ceramics industry in Europe. King Louis XVI issued an edict granting the city of Limôges exclusive permission to produce porcelain for the Kingdom of France. After the French Revolution, several private porcelain factories were established in the city, each identified by a different name or symbol. Today, each of their designs is unique and conceived by true artists. Limôges porcelain is produced in about twenty factories, all located in the Haute-Vienne department. Recognizing authentic Limôges porcelain is very simple: All objects from the French house bear the manufacturer's stamp. Usually stamped in black or blue, this mark can provide very precise clues for dating the piece. A large quantity of Limôges porcelain was produced. Blank, and decorated later. Therefore, this seal was often accompanied by the decorator's seal. Tray table incorporating Chines Porcelain pattern, British East India Company
By Margaret Fitzhugh Browne
Located in Valladolid, ES
Technical data Materials: Porcelain tray, wooden legs Period: Qing Dynasty Country of origin: China Good condition for its age and use, with some flaws in the wooden structure Overall dimensions: 70 x 95 x 80 cm Porcelain dimensions: 70 x 58 cm Exquisite Fitzhugh pattern porcelain plate or tray, inlaid in a cabinet that highlights its oval profile and raised on four slightly curved square legs. The term "Fitzhugh" refers to a type of Chinese export porcelain produced primarily between 1780 and 1840, featuring blue and white designs. It originated with three members of two generations of the Fitzhugh family. Members of this family held important positions as ship captains and even as directors in the British East India Company. Within this company, high-ranking officials were allowed to engage in private trade. Between 1704 and the 1790s, porcelain pieces bearing this pattern were shipped to England. The design usually includes a central medallion, although it is occasionally replaced by a coat of arms or monogram. The medallion is surrounded by four groupings of flowers representing the four seasons—peony for spring; lotus for summer; chrysanthemum for autumn; and prunus for winter—and symbols that typically represent the four virtues of the Chinese scholar: music, painting, logical thinking, and calligraphy. The design is framed with a decorative border that may be a lattice and spearhead pattern, sometimes known by the term "Nanking," or a more elaborate border featuring butterflies, honeycomb shapes, and floral ornamentation. The definition of the Fitzhugh porcelain...
