Size: Female flute player: Height  8.66 inches / 22.0 cm Width 7.87 inches / 20.0 cm Black man with cockatoo: Height  8.26 inches / 21.0 cm Width 8.66 inches / 22.0 cm Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark First quality  model numbers A 1146 (woman) and 67073 (man) former's number 102 / painter's number 34 Manufactured 1983 & 1988 (YEAR'S MARKS EXISTING) First quality Dating: second half of the 20th century Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Art Nouveau Modelled By: Paul Scheurich (1883-1945) Paul Scheurich was painter, sculptor, graphic artist, drawer and stage designer / he studied at Academy of Arts in Berlin / Germany during the years 1900-02. He worked for Meissen manufactory from 1913 to 1936. Undoubtedly he belonged to one of most important porcelain designers of first half of 20th century. His customers were for example porcelain manufactories such as KPM, Nymphenburg, Meissen. Detailed description: Pair of figurines - black bearded man with cockatoo and female bare-breasted flute player - of very interesting appearance: both figurines are reclining on oval base, they support themselves on palm trees being visible behind them. They are dressed in long oriental gowns / the man is wearing beak-shaped shoes, the woman has slippers covering her feet. Bibliography: Thomas Bergmann, Meissener Kuenstlerfiguren / Bergmann (Erlangen, Germany) 2010, number 1022 on page 507 and number 1023 on page 507. Condition: Very good (there aren't any damages existing).

Bottger instead discovered the method of creating porcelain, a favored and valuable item in the king's eyes. The king announced to Europe in 1710 that he would open a porcelain manufactory in Dresden. He instead opened one at nearby Albrechtsburg castle. Espionage was rampant, and the king guarded his porcelain secret, even though it meant imprisoning workers within the castle walls. By 1720, the secret was leaked and porcelain producers popped up in Vienna and Venice. Dresden Porcelain adopted Saxon crossed swords in under-glaze blue as its distinguishing mark.
