About the Item

Little Dripper Porcelain Filter Drip Coffeemaker, Designed by Michael Graves, Manufactured by Swid Powell, Dated 1987. The complete set, with original instruction booklet, included a coffee pot and cover with a cup-shaped coffee drip for drip coffee. We also have the Big Dripper in stock. The pot and cover have an x-shaped terracotta colored base. The white pot has three wavy lines and the cover and is surmounted with a gold circular ball knob. The pot has an eight cup capacity. Examples of this post modernism design can be found in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the RISD Museum, and the Yale University Art Gallery, Reference: Swid Powell: Objects by Architects Hardcover - 1990, by Tapert, Annette; Goldberger, Paul [Introduction]. In Annette Tapert's book on Swid Powell, she writes, "For Graves the correlation between his architecture and the pieces he designed for Swid Powell is the use of figurative motif and the application of color. "In many of these artifacts, I've used a similar palette, but in the symbolic sense," Graves notes. "For instance, on the Little Dripper coffee pot, the terra cotta base represents the heat and color of coffee and the blue signifies water. This is a direct association to some extent, but with an abstract touch. In the end, though, it's ornamental, and the associations are the relationship of color and form." Tapert goes on to quote Graves on his straightforward love of products, "Everything I design is a direct result of what I want in my own home. I designed The Little Dripper because I'm partial to filter-drip coffee and I was dissatisfied with the aesthetics of the models that were on the market." Dimensions: 7 inches high x 9 1/8 inches x 6 inches deep; 19 1/2 inches high x 6 inches with dripper. (Ref: NY10605-irax)
