19th Century Samson Paris Porcelain Trinket Box
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a gorgeous French 19th century Samson Paris Porcelain Trinket Box probably by Edme Samson. Marked on the base with “Made in France” and unmistakably in the style and manner of Samson. The lid features hand painted floral bouquets on an ivory porcelain background with gold edging, surrounded by a sky blue lid with gold web or crackling effect.. The lid is hinged and the lid and base are edged in floral gilt metal mounts with Fleur De Lis clasp. It sits on 4 gilt metal or ormolu feet. The sides are likewise hand decorated. This wonderful antique hand painted box is just bursting with History. Inspired by Edme Samson of Samson & Co., Paris. we believe (based upon the markings and natural aging) that it was made between 1880– 1890 in France and was meant to resemble an antique of a much earlier period. It is very similar to Sevres pieces with it’s color, decoration and design. Samson specialized in reproducing antiques from the 1600 and 1700s. One of his most interesting works was his Heraldic or Armorial pieces. With this medium sized box, he was not only copying the larger porcelain caskets or coffin boxes...

Important Biscuit Porcelain Group "the Three Graces", Manufacture De Sèvres
Located in Walkertshofen, BY
Important biscuit porcelain group "The Three Graces", Manufacture de Sèvres Based on the famous dance group of the mummies from the tomb of Henri II by Dominique Florentin (Florence 1501/06 - 1570s Troyes) and Pilon, Germain (Paris, ca. 1528 - 1590), which has been in the Louvre since 1817. It is not possible to know when this group was made in Sèvres, as we do not know any comparison pieces and the hallmark does not allow us to situate it in time. It seems to date from the mid-19th century, as the gilded bronze mounts also correspond to this period. It is interesting to note the Size of the shaped pieces, which sometimes caused small deep firing cracks, probably already repaired by the factory. The fineness of the fired porcelain cannot be surpassed. The sharpness of the contours is at the limit of what is possible with this technique. Here is some more information about the history of the model: Placed in the Orléans chapel of the Célestins convent church in Paris (original arrangement known from a drawing in the Gaignières collection). Group of the Three Graces, commissioned from Pilon and paid for between 1561 and 1566. Base executed by Dominique Florentin after a model by Jean Picard...

At that time, the official gilt mark and its date-letter did not exist - Chateau de Bizy red mark (chateau de Bizy used to be a private property of King Louis Philippe) - hollow marks (that usually confirms Sevres manufacturing and artists, unfortunately difficult to show on the pictures). Beautiful Fine gold gilt decoration including grapevine frieze and French King Louis...
