Three Chinese Kangxi Porcelain Plates
About the Item
Three Chinese Kangxi porcelain plates for export. Qing period, Kangxi reign (1662-1722). Polychrome decoration with floral motifs.
This set of porcelain plates displays refined artistic work, characteristic of the Chinese tradition of the Qing period (17th-18th centuries), especially export porcelain. The decoration is predominantly done in shades of reddish-orange and green, with delicate black details and fine lines, creating an elegant and harmonious visual effect. These colors are associated with the "famille verte" style, a technique developed during the Kangxi dynasty (1662-1722), in which colored enamels were applied to white porcelain.
The center of the plates features a naturalistic Chinese scene, where finely drawn branches and leaves intertwine with flowers in full bloom. The composition conveys a sense of balance and fluidity, evoking the idea of prosperity and renewal, common symbols in Eastern iconography. Small green details applied to the leaves and flowers add depth to the design, while delicate black outlines highlight the softness of the painting.
The rim of the plates is decorated with a continuous ornamental pattern of flowers, arabesques and small branches, creating a frame that complements the central scene. The use of fine lines and symmetrical elements suggests the influence of the refined techniques of the time, in which each piece was carefully hand-painted by specialized artisans.
These dishes were produced in response to the European demand for exotic and sophisticated porcelain. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the Dutch East India Company imported large quantities of Chinese porcelain for the Western market, where these pieces were valued for their beauty and craftsmanship.
The lightness of the design, combined with the complexity of the floral patterns and the precision of the painting, make this set a remarkable expression of Chinese ceramic art. In addition to their functionality, these dishes represent a testament to the skill of the artisans of the time and the cultural exchange between China and the West, being pieces that combine sophistication, history and a timeless artistic legacy.
