Vienna Imperial Porcelain Coffee Service, 8 People, Prussian Blue & Gold, 1825

About the Item

Elegant 19-piece coffee service consisting of a coffee pot, a large milk or hot water pot, a large sugar urn and eight coffee cups with saucers. Large bulbous vessels on stepped stand, the jugs with raised handles have set slender spouts stretching upward and recessed lids with suppositories for hooking and vase shaped knobs as handles, on the sugar urn two small volute shaped handles on opposite sides with mascarons on the lower connection, large overlaying lid with pegs as handle. Goblet-shaped cups on standing ring with raised, laterally undulating handle divided at the upper connection, mascaron below, saucers gently curved upwards towards the outside. Decorated with large Prussian blue background and white recessed borders with gold painted volute and leaf garlands, and gold rims. Manufactory: 'Alt Wien' Old Imperial Austrian Porcelain Manufactory Vienna Date of manufacture: 1825 Technique: white handmade porcelain, painted, glossy finish, gold staffage Dimensions: 1 lidded coffee pot h = 24,5 cm / 9.64 in 1 lidded milk pot h = 22,5 cm / 8.85 in 1 lidded sugar urn h = 20,0 cm / 7.87 in 8 cups h = 7,0 cm / 2.75 in 8 saucers Ø = 13,5 cm / 5.31 in Marks: Underglaze blue shield from the Imperial Manufactory Vienna - Year's mark '825' for the the year of origin 1825 - various former numbers - engraved 'W' - modeler letter for Kaspar Dondl - various painter numbers, like '20' for Ignatz Schmitt, active 1801-1833 '18' for Josef Megerle, active 1792-1810, 1816-1855 Condition: very good overall condition - slight abrasion to the gold in places
