Viennese Imperial Porcelain Splendour Plate, Playing Cupids As Hunters, 1805

Porcelain picture plate with fine polychrome painted scenery: In the mirror five winged cupids dressed as hunters with dog in a summer landscape against a white background, framed by golden leaf garland, plate flag in light blue with delicate meander and feather leaf decor painted in impasto gold, matte gold rim with bright gold painted stylized egg stick decor. Conrad Sörgel von Sorgenthal (1735 Nuremberg - 1805 Vienna) From 1784 until his death he headed the Viennese porcelain manufactory, which under his leadership enjoyed great economic and artistic growth ('painterly period'). Sorgenthal was also the chief official for the state manufacturing system.
