19th C. Large Terracotta Walnut Oil Jar with its Lid

About the Item

A fine French antique walnut oil jar, complete with original close-fitting lid, three side handles, and interestingly shaped spout. Originally designed for the storage and preservation of nut or olive oils, this wonderful terracotta pot with its fabulously glossy caramel glaze, would have been a valued storage vessel in a 19th century French country kitchen. Scuffs, marks and chips to the exterior form part of its backstory, and only add to its rustic charm and character.
