A rare Doulton Lambeth art pottery jug decorated with panels containing wolves and grouse dated 1876. This stylish stoneware jug is of concial shape standing on a wide rounded foot narrowing to a rounded top with a small pouring spout and a large ear shaped handle to the side. The jug is finely decorated with three incised panels set between scrolling leaf designs. The panels in white stipple borders are finely incised two with wolves and a central panel with feeding grouse picked out in black glazes on a brown salt glazed ground. The deep incised patterning around the borders is painted in tones of brown, grey and blue with patterned borders above and below and with a geometric design applied to the handle. The jug has an impressed Doulton Lambeth mark to the base incorporating the date 1876 along with incised artist marks for Florence Barlow...
