Pair Marbleized Terra Cotta Italian Obelisks

About the Item

This pair of objects were made around 1900 to 1910 in Italy. They are crafted from hand-molded terra cotta that has been marbleized with colored slip and fired in low heat creating a matte surface. The unusual triangular form is based on 16th & 17th-century interpretations of ancient obelisks found in Roman Baroque gardens. The marbled effect is also seen in Wedgewood pieces from the late 18th century in England during the neoclassic period expressed by designers such as Robert Adam. The pair have several small old repairs but are in good shape and very decorative. Interesting to note that they both have the original paper labels still attached Condition Disclosure: While we do our best to carefully inspect and give a full report on the condition of any item we sell, pointing out any repairs or alterations that may have been done to the best of our knowledge, as is the case with any antique and vintage item, there is a possibility that at some point in the life of the piece that there may have been damaged which has been professionally repaired and as such a repair undetectable, it is therefore impossible for us to disclose... we recommend that you also read and agree to the 1st dibs user agreement, particularly sections 9,13,15,18,19 and 27
