About

Unique bowl, glazed stoneware, created by Geert Lap. This salmon pink bowl has straight edges and is signed 'Geert Lap 1986' at the bottom.

Geert Lap (1951-2017) was a Dutch ceramist, known for his minimalist approach to ceramics. The work of Lap is distinguished by its seeming simplicity and perfect craftsmanship. His ceramics have a timeless quality. With each piece he created, Lap tried to come closer to the essence of the thrown form.

Lap studied at the Academy of Art and Design St. Joost from 1974-1976. He continued his studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie from 1976 to 1979, where he was taught by Jan van der Vaart. Van der Vaart's experimental work method and clear language of forms was of great influence on Lap. In Amsterdam Lap shared a studio with Barbara Nanning for two years, and in 1980 he started his own studio. Later, Lap lectured at the Design Academy Eindhoven (1985-86) and at the Minerva Academy in Groningen (1985-1987).
