Sussex Pottery Slipware Jar Dated August 31st 1810

About

Earthenware slipware jar decorated with flower heads within a band and a profusion of stars in geometric patterns the piece with the initials S S and the date August 31st 1810 also in slip decoration. The metal lid is a tinker "make do" with a brass finial. This piece is of exceptional rarity and was probably made as a marriage gift. Medium: slipware earthenware pottery ceramic. Provenance: Retains the label of the Solon Collection. Dated: 1810 Sussex England.
