19th Century Auguste Nicolas Cain Signed Bronze Tazza Sculpture

A very fine Auguste Nicolas Cain (French, 1822-1894) bronze sculpture depicting a crowing rooster perched atop naturalistic base of stylized log over large leaf form dish, decorated with blackberries. Bronze with golden brown patina circa 1880; France Signed in two locations, inscribed below the rooster and again on the dish: 'A. CAIN' Dimensions (approx): 9.5" Wide, 7" Deep, 7.125" High Provenance / Acquisition: Heritage Auction, Dallas, TX. Artist/Background: A strong and well regarded animalier sculptor, Cain's Crowing Cock with richly detailed musculature, extensive textures, movement, and raw power of this scene can easily be felt. Cain was a noted member of the French Animaliers school, and is known for his realistic depictions of wild and domestic animals as well as birds. The artist was a prolific and award winning exhibitor at the Paris Salon, showing 38 models from 1846 to 1888 Similar examples can be found in The National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. Detroit's Institute of Art, Michigan, Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park, The Elms in Newport, Rhode Island, and numerous notable museums around the world. Excellent condition, elegant, nicely aged patinated bronze with a few scattered small dots of striking verdigris patina, adding to the antique character, elegant rustic warmth and rich historical depth to the impressive work.
