Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Wine Coaster Peter & Anne Bateman London 1799

About the Item

A fine antique Georgian sterling silver wine coaster, Peter & Anne Bateman, London, 1799. The coaster having a flared & ribbed rim with baronial a engraved crest to the front of a snake within a laurel wreath, to the back is second engraved mark of a lion rampant holding a ball. The interior of the coaster with a ribbed walnut disc and a silver central button, the exterior base with corresponding ribbed decoration & hallmarked for London 1799 and maker's marks for Peter & Anne Bateman. The Bateman family were a dynasty of silversmiths in London, they were known for making high quality silver items and are highly prized by collectors, 221 grams. Condition is excellent, no damage or restoration.
