About the Item

Rare antique circa 1856 Victorian silverplate "Magic Caster" by Roswell Gleason & Sons. A Gothic style hexagonal, rotating cruet stand with floral and foliate details. The six lobed panels around the sides sport images of game birds and fish. Turning the knob on the base rotates the panels open to reveal storage slots for six cruet / condiment bottles. This early example of the design is marked "Patent Applied For" at the top of the piece. Patented by Edward Gleason, 1856. Dimensions: 8" x 15" (Diameter x Height)

A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver sugar caster, an addition to our silver teaware collection. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver sugar caster has a baluster form onto a circular domed spreading foot. The upper and lower portions of this piece are embellished with embossed and chased bead and scroll decoration accenting concave bordered, fluted decoration all in a spiral design. The sugar caster retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover, embellished with pierced decoration incorporating chased and embossed bead and scroll decoration, the screw fit attachment indicates the fine quality of this piece. The cover is further ornamented with a gadroon decorated border to the rim and is surmounted by a fine and impressive scroll decorated shaped baluster style finial.
