About the Item
An exquisite antique French set of four silver vermeil ice cream shovels/spoons in a velvet lined presentation case, created by Alfred Daubree, Nancy. The spoons with incredibly detailed engravings depicting birds, branches, leaves and flowers. The handles with intricate details of quatrefoils, vines and leaves.
Alfred Daubrée died at the end of 1885.
He was a distinguished artist who brought honour to Nancy. With fine and sure taste, he produced a large number of highly regarded works of art; statuettes, medallions, bronzes, reliquaries, etc.
It was through his care that Schiff's René Il was cast and it was thanks to his activity that Callot finally had his statue.
The Treasure and the large monstrance of Saint-Epvre came out of his workshops, as well as the Way of the Cross, in enamels which decorate Bonsecours.
He had also formed the project of publishing an Illustrated History of Lorraine Artists, and he intended to collaborate with his many drawings. A large part of the documents had already been collected.
He created this fashion for Lorraine jewelry that everyone likes to wear now, and which helped to revive the old memories of our province. He was also for many years the treasurer of the Lorraine Society of Friends of the Arts.
The death of Alfred Daubrée is a loss for the arts of Lorraine.
He had known, through the kindness of his character, how to conquer a very special place in the world where one knows how to appreciate the qualities of an artist.
Description:
Originally from Nancy, Alfred Daubrée set up around 1850 as a bronze and jewelry dealer at 85 rue Montmartre. He cast a certain number of bronzes for Fratin, Cumberworth, Menessier, Michel Pascal, Kampf. He sold a lot through agents and his bronzes rarely bear his mark. From 1860, he established himself at 48 boulevard de Strasbourg, then at 12 in
1881. At the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867, he was presented as one of the most renowned founders of his time. His son succeeded him after his death in 1885.
