About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Pair of Art Deco silver-plated jugs with lid for breakfast; they were suitable for tea, coffee, milk, etc., the truncated cone shape and the body completely smooth, give them a sober and very elegant look; on the lid are engraved delicate initials, certainly those of the owner; both the spout and the lid integrate harmoniously with the whole; but the real originality of the two objects are the handles: they have been perfectly and masterfully covered with raffia threads, a touch of refinement in addition, which also avoids overheating. Raffia is a strong fiber that is obtained from the leaves of a tropical plant; it is ecru in color with shades of straw yellow, it has a very strong consistency but not rough; raffia is a plant and should not be confused with straw, which is the result of the grain stems and therefore a waste of threshing. The two jugs bear the marks of the Gorham Company on the bottom, and the small clover-shaped mark indicates with certainty that they were made in 1913. The Gorham Manufacturing Company was founded in the United States in Providence (Rhode Island) in 1831; it was undoubtedly the most important and largest silverware factory in the USA; it was the first, in 1837, to adopt a rational system of industrial production without upsetting the artisan workforce; in 1863 he started to produce excellent silver-plated products that had the same constructive and qualitative characteristics of the silver ones; he adopted from the beginning a particular and precise punching system on the English model; in 1859 he produced an exceptional silver set for the First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln; Gorham is remembered for its refined and always innovative design, for the excellent and superior quality of all its products; in 1967 Texon (a group of industrial companies in Providence) bought Gorham, unfortunately since that event, the quality of production declined rapidly. Measures of the big diameter cm.10, height cm.17,5, measures of the small-diameter cm.8,5, height cm.15. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Victorian Style Pair of English Toilet Flasks Crystal Ground and Sterling Silver
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Particular pair of toilet bottles in cut and ground by hand crystal; for their execution it was used crystal with a percentage of lead of 30%; the high lead content, instead of calcium present in the common glass, gives the crystal a remarkable hardness, exceptional transparency, and a high refractive index; with the techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing, scrupulously performed by hand, extraordinary light effects and reflections were created; the bottles with the ball body are surmounted by a silver neck and a hinged lid finely chiseled with Victorian motifs. They bear the Classic English silver punches from which we can tell that they were produced in the Victorian style in the city of Birmingham in 1907 (Edward VII) by the firm Phineas Harris Levi & Joseph Wolfe Salaman. The company was founded in 1870 in Birmingham on Northampton Street, in 1872 moved to larger premises on Hockley Street and in 1885 the business was finally moved to a prestigious building on Newhall Street. Levi & Salaman produced much Fine silverware...
