About the Item

These candlesticks were made by the re known firm of Elkington, Birmingham, England, circa 1920. They feature beautifully carved columns, rose garlands and figural ram's head bases. They are in lovely antique condition. Elkington Silver company is one of the premiere producers of flatware and silver plate. The company has a rich history that dates back to the industrial revolution. Most notably, Queen Victoria allowed for Elkington Silver Company to replicate much of the royal pieces, a convention that was subsequently adopted my many of the reigning royal families throughout Europe. The Elkington Silver Company has been granted royal warrants by Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, King George V, King Edward VII, Queen Mary, and King George VI, among many others. This is a distinctive honor bestowed upon companies who have supplied members of the royal family with goods or services. Elkington Silver Company supplied flatware to the luxury dining sections on the RMS Titanic, as well as other vessels of the famed White Star Line fleet. The brand also furnished the flatware for the Royal Yacht Britannia’s dining room, which served the British royal family. In the 1830s, Elkington Silver Company patented their processes for silver plating they allowed for a number of other producers to use their silver plating technique under license. Christofle & Cie of France was one of the first companies granted permission to use their trademarked processes.
