About the Item

A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver presentation cup and cover; an addition to our presentation silverware collection. This magnificent antique Edwardian sterling silver cup and cover has a plain circular bell shaped form to a circular spreading foot. The surface of this antique silver cup is plain and unembellished, with an applied moulded border to the rim. This large silver cup retains the original push fit cover surmounted with a large and impressive cast ovoid finial ornamented with fluted decoration to the upper portion. The rim of this impressive cover is encompassed with a cast applied fluted decorated border, in a swirl design. This imposing cup is fitted with two impressive elongated C shaped handles, each with a spiralling/helix shaped bifurcating upper terminal in junction with the plain body. The circular spreading foot is encircled with a band of chased fluted ornamentation. This magnificent and large antique silver cup with handles is fitted to a painted ebonized wood plinth, encircled with a vacant silver inscription band; the band may be engraved with a personal inscription if so desired. This cup and cover were crafted by the renowned silversmiths Elkington & Co Ltd in 1909; these items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the cup is struck with the date letter 'i' and the cover bears 'j'. The rim of the foot bears the retailer's mark 'Elkington & Co'. Condition This antique silver cup and cover is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. This impressive cup has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The cast and chased decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup, in addition to part hallmarks to the rim of the cover are all clear in keeping with age and location. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this magnificent and large antique silver cup with handles.
