Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Novelty Pepper Pots in the Form of Pheasants

About the Item

Hallmarked in London in 1888 by Charles Boyton, this rare, pair of Victorian, antique, sterling silver pepper pots are modelled as pheasants. Each pepper pot measures 2.5"(6 cm) tall, by 3.5"(9 cm) from beak to tail and the pair weighs 1.7 troy ounces. They are presented in their original box.

    A fine and impressive, unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver novelty pepper shaker; an addition to our diverse silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver novelty pepper has a plain ovoid shaped form. The body of the pepper is embellished with impressive chased decoration depicting a cracked egg shell with a boy’s face and hands to the anterior surface and his feet and buttocks to the reverse. The body has pierced 'pepper' holes in a hexagram formation to the upper portion. This pepper retains the original fully hallmarked screw fit weighted base; which when unscrewed provides access to permit the pot to be filled. This novelty pepper is a fine example of its type.
