Antique 1925 Sterling Silver Beer / Water Jug

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver beer / water jug; part of our antique dining silverware collection This exceptional antique 20th century sterling silver beer/water jug has a plain baluster form onto a circular spreading foot, in the classic 18th century style. The surface of this impressive antique silver jug is plain and unembellished. The upper rim of the jug is encompassed with a plain applied moulded border. This impressive example of antique silverware is fitted with a sterling silver handle ornamented with a scrolling thumbpiece and lower terminals. The handle is further ornamented with impressive cut card decorated sockets, in junction with the body. The beak style spout of this sterling silver jug is embellished with a vase-shaped moulding with a drop shaped form to the nadir, in addition to further cut card decoration. The underside of the jug bears the retailer's mark 'Butcher and Swann, Nottingham' Condition This antique 20th century sterling silver beer jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The jug has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full British hallmarks struck to the underside of the body are all very clear, apart from the maker's mark; the remaining three hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Due to the high quality of the piece and nature of the lower portion of the hallmark, there is a strong possibility the maker is William Comyns & Sons Ltd (Charles & Richard Comyns). The body of this impressive jug is embellished with impressive chased leaf decoration, alternating with curvilinear bud style festoons and tiered organic motifs. The upper rim of the jug is encompassed with an applied moulded border, continuing to the bear style spout. This impressive example of antique silverware is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with an impressive leaf decorated thumbpiece. The underside of the jug bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb, London'. This impressive jug was crafted by the renowned London silversmith John Newton Mappin of Mappin & Webb, and is a large example for its type. Condition This antique silver water jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The body of this impressive antique silver jug is embellished with an impressive engraved scrolling leaf bodered coat of arms depicting on a fess three five-pinted stars between three griffens' heads erased. This impressive example of Georgian silverware is fitted with a cast sterling silver S scroll handle ornamented with an impressive scrolling leaf thumbpiece and bifurcating lower scrolling terminal. The cast beak style spout of the jug is embellished with a vase-shaped moulding to the nadir. The circular spreading foot is embellished with bands of tooled decoration. Note: The London Assay Office have missing records in the Smallworkers' Register (1739-1758) and Largeworkers' Register (1758-1773), and it can be determined that this maker's mark was registered within this timeframe. However John King became free from his apprenticeship August 1757, and it can be determined there is a high probability that this maker's mark associates to him. Condition This 18th century jug...
