Antique Art Deco Style Sterling Silver and Agate Handled Presentation Trowel

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George VI English sterling silver and agate handled presentation trowel in the Art Deco style, boxed; an addition to our diverse presentation silverware collection This exceptional antique George VI agate and sterling silver trowel has a triangle, angular shaped blade in the Art Deco style. The anterior face of the blade features an extended protruding angular border embellished with bands of tooled decoration. The ornamentation to the blade incorporates the contemporary engraved presentation inscription: 'Presented to The Right Honorable The Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne, Alderman Gilbert Oliver, J.P. upon Laying the Foundation Stone for the New Artillery Barracks, 7th July 1938'. The reverse of the blade is plain and unembellished, apart from the featured hallmarks. This sterling silver presentation trowel retains the original fine and impressive carved hexagonal agate handle, fitted to a plain hallmarked hexagonal terminal and chased decorated stylized leaf decorated bolster. This impressive, engraved silver trowel is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark of 'By Appointment, Mappinn & Webb Ltd, Regent Street, London W'. Condition: This antique trowel is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The interior of the box features some staining, in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in excellent presentation condition. The engraved and tooled decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of the blade have wear due to their location and in keeping with age, but remain legible. The lion passant mark to the terminal of the handle mount is clear. Dimensions: Length 23.1cm/9.1". Length of blade 14.1cm/5.6". Length of handle 7.1cm/2.8". Width of handle 2cm/0.8". Maker: Mappin & Webb Ltd. Origin: Birmingham, England. Date: 1937. Video: A video of this fine piece is available upon request. Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.
