About the Item

We are delighted to offer this beautiful set of solid silver gilt 19th-century Dutch knives made in the Southern Netherlands c.1840. This set features a most wonderful and ornate mother of pearl handle and solid silver gilt design which glistens majestically under lighting (or even better, with candle light). Each blade, cartouche and terminal features a fully gilt surface (gold on top of solid silver) which not only serves an aesthetic purpose but prevents the silver from tarnishing and protects the surface. The contrast between the rich gold tone on the silver and the bright MOP white/iridescent colour makes it particularly delightful and adds an accented aesthetic no matter the setting, whether be it a part of a collection or on top of a dining table. Whilst classically elegant and timeless in design, this set can also be practically used in the modern day, on its own or with accompanying antique wares which most certainly elevates the ambience of an interior. The blades of the knives are marked with small 19th C Dutch hallmarks that were used in the Southern Netherlands between 1814-1842 (present day Belgium,Luxembourg & Maastricht). *All images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the title items only.
