About the Item
A beautiful antique silver and leather dog collar.
A prized possession for a beloved pet, this collar has a band of silver mounted onto a leather collar, the front engraved with; Mrs Poynter, 22 Strada Ridolfo, Sliema.
This is an address in Malta and the owner either lived here permanently or frequented the address a lot.
It is a collar for a small breed, it would also work for a small cat and is slim around the sides, the leather showing a little wear inside and it does not reach all the way around to the back of the clasp.
The collar is fastened with a small padlock clasp that opens with a key however it does not come with the key so is locked.
There are no real clues as to who Mrs Poynter was or her life in Malta but Sliema suffered badly in WW2 and sadly many people and much history was lost to bombings.
A beautiful and historical piece, perfect for the collector.
Late Victorian era, Unmarked, tests as sterling silver, padlock is base metal.
Condition:
Good used condition overall with some signs of use and wear commensurate with age, some minor drying of the leather, padlock is locked, no key

This exceptional antique Victorian silver vinaigrette has a rectangular form with rounded corners.
The cover of this fine vinaigrette is embellished with a scene of Abbotsford House in high relief.
The sides of the box are encompassed with panels of undulating ornamentation.
The underside of the box is ornamented with engine turned decoration incorporating a rectangular cartouche displaying the contemporary engraved inscription 'J.E to S.E, 17th April 1821'.
Both the base and cover are embellished with applied scrolling leaf decorated borders.
