About the Item
A magnificent, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver goblet; an addition to our collection of wine and drinks related silverware.
This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a shaped pedestal to a plain rounded knop and circular spreading foot.
The body of this silver goblet is embellished with an applied cartouche pertaining to the London Athletic Club accented with a uncial-style typeface and incorporating the motto 'Vincit Qui Patitur' - Who Endures, Wins, in addition to.
Either side of the goblet features a cast and applied wing, each with ornamentation reproducing the details of the plumage.
The upper rim of the vessel is encompassed with an applied moulded border.
The cast sterling silver pedestal is modelled in the form of Caduceus with the wings to the upper portion conjoining with the drinking vessel.
This impressive antique Victorian silver goblet is an unusual and exceptional example of its type.
The London Athletic Club (LAC) is a track and field club which is currently operational from Barn Elms in West London, England. This club supports and helps develops many athletes including more than sixty Olympians.
Caduceus (otherwise known as herald's staff//?????e??? kerukeion) is a staff entwined with two serpents and surmounted by a pair of wings. This staff is carried by Hermes in Greek mythology and Mercury in Roman iconography; each figure is known for being a messenger. This Classic symbol is a modern day depiction of commerce and is used as a symbol across the medical field in the United States of America.

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver goblet; an addition to our collection of wine and drinks related silverware
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot.
The body of this 1870s silver goblet is embellished with bright cut engraved foliate festoons accented with pensile leaf drops; these vertical designs form four cartouches.
The cartouche to one side bears a bright cut engraved fruit design; the further three remain vacant.
The knopped stem is encircled with a plain moulded border to the centre.
The foot is ornamented with further bright cut engraved overlapping arch designs, accented with an applied bead decorated border to the rim.
Condition
This antique 1870s silver goblet is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The goblet has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp and the applied ornamentation is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the goblet are all very clear.
