19th Century Victorian Sterling Silver Spirit Kettle

About the Item

This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a baluster shaped form. The surface of the kettle is embellished with exceptional chased floral designs, incorporated within plain impressive interlacing foliate designs, all on a matte background. This 19th century silver kettle is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover encircled with further scrolling leaf decoration, reflecting that of the body. The cover is surmounted with the exceptional and original cast sterling silver finial modelled in the form of a stemmed floral spray. This fine example of antique teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with a plain handpiece, accented with large scrolling leaf sockets in junction with the body. This exceptional kettle is fitted with a swan necked spout, ornamented to the lower portion with a continuation of matte decoration. The magnificent kettle detaches from the original hallmarked cast sterling silver stand, supported by three impressive scrolling legs accented with further ornamentation reflecting that of the cover. The stand is encircled with an impressive cast and applied overlapping leaf decorated border. The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the original hallmarked detachable spirit burner. The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs. The underside of the kettle and stand bear a Russian import hallmark*, in addition to the full British hallmarks. This magnificent kettle, with Russian interest, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. * This style of Russian import hallmark was used from 1882 and was discontinued in the late 1898. It bears the fineness mark, the town mark and the Cyrillic letters ПТ (Latin PT) meaning ПРИВОЗНЫХ ТОВАРОВ (Imported Goods). Condition This antique 19th century silver spirit kettle is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The chased, cast and applied decoration is very sharp. The interior of the kettle has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the kettle, stand and spirit burner, in addition to part hallmarks to the interior of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. The Russian import hallmark to the underside of the kettle and stand are also very clear. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of Victorian teaware. An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver spirit kettle; an addition to our antique silver teaware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a melon shaped, incurved paneled form. Each segment of the paneled body is embellished with impressive alternating flat engraved designs incorporating quatrefoil motifs accented with bordered leaf ornamentation and a trellis pattern, all encompassed with a matte texture. The upper portion of the body is encircled with a flat engraved undulating border with applied moulded decoration to the scalloped rim. This antique silver kettle is fitted with a domed hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with the exceptional and original hallmarked sterling silver gourd shaped finial, securing to the interior with a wing nut. This fine example of Victorian teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with impressive cast S-scroll, leaf decorated terminals accented with large scrolling leaf decorated sockets in junction with the body. This solid silver kettle has a plain paneled swan necked spout with an impressive scalloped shaped socket accented with a paralleling border. This exceptional kettle detaches from the original hallmarked cast sterling silver Stand, supported by four impressive cast scrolling legs accented with further applied leaf ornamentation. The upper portion of the stand is encircled with impressive cast scrolling leaf ornamentation with a central floral design. The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the original spirit burner, reflecting the identical paneled form to the body and cover. An magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian English sterling silver spirit kettle made by Barnard & Sons Ltd, an addition to our antique silver teaware collection. This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a six paneled urn shaped form onto a hexagonal paneled spreading pedestal foot. The surface to this large spirit kettle is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved foliate festoons incorporating quatrefoil leaf motifs and suspended from rosette designs to each edge. The decoration to the body incorporates two oval cartouches, one of which remains vacant. The cartouche to the anterior surface is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of an antelope's head couped, charged on the neck with four mullets in cross, and holding in the mouth a rose, slipped and leaved, displayed below the motto 'Nil extra numerum'- Nothing is beyond reckoning up*.
