Andre Aucoc was a Favorite of King Louis Philippe, the Orleans Family, Napoleon III and his Wife Princess Eurgenie in Addition to England's Queen Victoria. French silver-smithing has long been celebrated for its exquisite craftsmanship and innovative designs. Among the many prominent silversmiths of the 19th century, one name stands out as an icon of elegance and innovation – Andre Aucoc. The Aucoc family of skilled artisans played a pivotal role in redefining French silverwork during the 19th century. The story of the Aucoc dynasty begins with Jean-Baptiste Aucoc, a talented silversmith who opened his workshop in Paris in the early 19th century. Born in 1777, Jean-Baptiste was exposed to the art of silversmithing from a young age. Under the mentorship of his father, François Aucoc, he honed his skills and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional craftsmanship. Jean-Baptiste Aucoc's work was marked by a dedication to traditional French design principles, emphasizing ornamentation, symmetry, and a meticulous attention to detail. He soon garnered the patronage of nobility and the upper echelons of society, establishing his reputation as one of the finest silversmiths in Paris. Aucoc's success can be attributed to his unique approach to combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative design elements. He was known for seamlessly merging various artistic styles, creating pieces that were not only functional but also decorative works of art. Aucoc's work exemplified the eclecticism of the 19th century, drawing inspiration from various historical and artistic periods. One of the defining moments in the history of Aucoc was the recognition and patronage of the French royal family. Jean-Baptiste Aucoc's exceptional craftsmanship and innovative designs earned him the privilege of being appointed "Fournisseur de l'Empereur" (Supplier to the Emperor) by Napoleon III. This prestigious title signified the royal seal of approval and catapulted Aucoc's reputation to new heights. Under imperial patronage, Aucoc created an array of splendid silver pieces for the French court, including ornate tableware, candelabras, and decorative objects. These commissions showcased Aucoc's ability to translate the opulence and grandeur of the French monarchy into exquisite silver art. The Aucoc family's contributions to French silversmithing are immeasurable. Their innovative approach to design, incorporation of various styles, and commitment to superior craftsmanship left an indelible mark on the world of silver art. Their legacy is not only reflected in the numerous accolades and honors they received during their lifetimes but also in the enduring value of Aucoc pieces in the world of antiques and collectibles. Aucoc's silver pieces continue to be highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs of fine art. Their exquisite craftsmanship and innovative designs make them desirable additions to both private and public collections. Museums worldwide, such as the Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, proudly exhibit Aucoc pieces as prime examples of 19th-century French silver-work. This set is in extremely good condition. Founded in the 19th century, this renowned silversmith firm has left an indelible mark on the world of decorative arts. Bloch & Eschwege was established in the mid-19th century by two remarkable artisans, Joseph-Alexandre Bloch and Emile-Robert Eschwege. Both men were passionate about the art of silver-smithing, and their partnership laid the foundation for a firm that would set new standards of excellence in the craft. Joseph-Alexandre Bloch was born in 1828 in the heart of Paris, a city renowned for its artistic heritage. As a young man, Bloch exhibited an exceptional talent for metalwork, earning an apprenticeship with a prominent Parisian silversmith. This experience provided him with valuable training in the art of working with silver and other precious metals. Bloch's dedication and skill earned him recognition in the silversmithing community, setting the stage for his future partnership with Eschwege. Emile-Robert Eschwege, born in 1832, hailed from a family of skilled metalworkers. His upbringing was steeped in the traditions of silver-smithing, and he showed a remarkable aptitude for the craft from a young age. Eschwege's family background and his own determination to master the art of silver-smithing made him a formidable candidate to join forces with Bloch. In 1855, Bloch and Eschwege joined hands to establish their silversmith firm in Paris. The early works of Bloch & Eschwege were characterized by a fusion of traditional silversmithing techniques and innovative designs. Their creations included intricately designed flatware, tableware, and decorative pieces that showcased their mastery over silver, gold, and other precious metals.
