About the Item

This Classic Silver Etrog Container from Poland, dating to the second half of the 19th century, is a beautiful example of Jewish ceremonial art. This container, designed to hold the etrog (a citron fruit used during the Jewish festival of Sukkot), is crafted from silver with intricate detailing. The container features a broad domed lid, adorned with beautifully crafted sprouting acanthus leaves centered by an acorn finial. The body of the container is slightly rounded and supported by four chased shell-shaped scrolled feet. At its sides, are large shaped cartouches interspersed by vases holding tall cattails and are framed underneath by elegant C-scrolls. The container's elegance is further enhanced by its polished silver finish, showcasing the skill and artistry of Polish silversmiths during this era. Marked at the bottom of the Container 10.79ozt
