Frantz Hingelberg Strawberry Sugar Caster in Silver, 1920s

About the Item

Ornate large sugar caster for strawberries, pancakes etc. Its fashioned from delicately hammered solid silver indicated by the 3 towers to its base. Subtle jugend styling and topped with a birds or dragons claw holding a sphere or globe - a symbol of mastery, strength and protection. It was made circa 1920 at Frantz Hingelbergs shop in Aarhus, Denmark. Fully hall-marked and signed to its base. Measurements: H: 19 cm, Diameter: 9 cm.

    A fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver sugar caster, an addition to our silver teaware collection. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver sugar caster has a baluster form onto a circular domed spreading foot. The upper and lower portions of this piece are embellished with embossed and chased bead and scroll decoration accenting concave bordered, fluted decoration all in a spiral design. The sugar caster retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover, embellished with pierced decoration incorporating chased and embossed bead and scroll decoration, the screw fit attachment indicates the fine quality of this piece. The cover is further ornamented with a gadroon decorated border to the rim and is surmounted by a fine and impressive scroll decorated shaped baluster style finial.
