About the Item

We are delighted to offer this magnificent and very large solid silver box made by Mappin & Webb Ltd, London 1901. Challenging to convey through photographs, this box could be mistaken for a usual snuff or pill box of the period; however, this impressive piece whilst similar in design, is gargantuan in comparison. Measuring 34cm by 10cm, it offers a wide range of functionality as well as its aesthetic beauty that would grace any table or sideboard as a wonderful piece of interior decor. The exterior is profusely decorated with repoussé and chased motifs of acanthus leaves, scrolls and flowers. The interior is lined with a red velvet lining that contrasts the exterior beautifully whilst also offering the possibility to store items such as watches or jewellery. The top presents an oval cartouche in which two monograms and coronets are present. The decoration remains very crisp and in high relief, which allows it to be seen from all angles with a bold and lasting impression. Overall, a spectacularly sized piece of silverware of the period with a plethora of versatile uses. Ideal to place on a large table or as a stunning piece of desktop ware in your personal workspace. A set of full English hallmarks is present on the side of the box. *Please note: all images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the item mentioned in the title.
