Hawkes Sterling & Crystal Art Deco Vase

About the Item

Based in Corning, NY, T.G. Hawkes & Co. (c.1880-1959) was established by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes (1846-1913). Born in Ireland, Hawkes immigrated to Brooklyn in 1862, then moved to Corning, opening his own cut glass firm in 1880. His firm, T.G. Hawkes & Co., soon became famous for quality wares. Hawkes' glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. Hawkes pieces can be found in museums world-wide. This vase is very different than the other Hawkes vases we have/had in that the glass is not cut and very ornate. Hawkes Crystal almost always has elaborate cut glass and acid-etched designs that are the signature of the company. This vase is very simple with only a pinstripe design on the glass. Sophisticated and elegant and a nod to the fabulous Art Deco designs of the roaring 1920’s.
