About the Item

A large silver tankard of basic cylindrical form, standing on three feet in the shape of seated crowned lions with their forelegs resting on spheres, floral relief decoration to the lower part of the vessel and to the domed loaf-shaped lid, which is connected to the circular curved handle by a hinge, also surmounted by a seated lion figure, two sides of a Dutch ducat are embossed in the middle of the lid on the outside and inside - inside with the date '1654' and the inscription 'CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT' - 'THROUGH HARMONY THE SMALL GROWS', this motto reinforced by the lion figures as a symbol of unity, strength and power. Hallmarks: - 3 towers + 40 in oval - Danish / Copenhagen hallmark, 830 silver, from 1893, with the year's sign 40 for 1940 - Master's mark 'SJ' in oval for Johannes SIGGAARD, active 1932-1960 Dimensions: Height: 21,0 cm / 8.26 in Width: 21,0 cm / 8.26 in Depth: 16,0 cm / 6.29 in Total weight: 1100 grams / 35.36 troy oz Condition: Very well maintained, cleaned and polished
