circa: 1819 - 1838

circa: 1853 - 1906
Weight: 86.5grs 4 Hallmarks: Goldsmiths and “oak leaf” hallmark
Also called sugar spoon, it is intended to serve cane sugar newly imported from American plantations.
Used to sweeten seasonal fruits and exotic drinks such as chocolate and coffee, it was initially reserved for an elite.
Made of silver or vermeil, it is made to order by a specialized master silversmith.
An object filled with charm and femininity, the sprinkling spoon is a rare example in the history of the decorative arts: it is in fact in the provinces and not in Paris that the most original models will be created.
