A Miniature Silver Book Binding, Israel Circa 1950

About the Item

Lovely miniature silver bookbinding from Israel circa 1950. The 1950s in Israel were a time of growth and cultural development following the establishment of the state in 1948. Judaica from this period often reflects the blend of tradition and the burgeoning national identity. Miniature book bindings were often used for religious texts, prayer books, or psalms (Tehillim). Silver bindings were prized for their durability and beauty, often used for special or ceremonial purposes. This binding features a Decalogue at the front with intricate filigree work framing the cover. A decorative star of David motif adorns the back cover with a similar filigree scrolling framing the edges. The word "Tzion" another word for Jerusalem in Hebrew is prominently displayed in the center of the star of David. This miniature bookbinding houses a small religious text used for personal devotion or travel. This miniature silver bookbinding is a valuable piece of Judaica, reflecting the rich cultural and historical context of the early Israeli state. Its intricate craftsmanship and religious significance make it a cherished collectible. Marked at clasp 2.13ozt. (with inner book)
