About the Item

This pair of refined and delicately crafted silver salad servers exemplifies the elegance and exceptional craftsmanship of French silversmithing at the end of the 19th century. The oval spatula, adorned with finely molded ribbon motifs, is mounted on a rectangular stem with hollow channels, further embellished with ribbon designs. The handles, engraved with the initials "CM," add a unique and personal touch to this ensemble. Made of 950/1000 sterling silver and hallmarked with the Minerva stamp, these servers reflect the quality and prestige of Parisian workshops of the era. This masterpiece bears the silversmith’s hallmark "VB," a lozenge featuring the initials of Victor Boivin, framed by two stars and a crescent moon. Active from 1897 at 5 rue de Montmorency in Paris, Victor Boivin succeeded his father, Jules Boivin, a renowned silversmith specializing in fine tableware. As the heir to a rich family tradition, he carried forward the artisanal excellence of the Maison Boivin until the early 20th century, when the workshop was acquired by Ravinet d’Enfert. Victor Boivin is also celebrated for his family connection to René Boivin, his brother, the famous jeweler whose creations remain highly coveted by collectors. These salad servers are not merely functional pieces but also a valuable testament to the refinement and artistic heritage of Paris, blending history and elegance to elevate your dining experience.
