Rare George II Period Sterling Silver Shaving Jug, London, 1752, Paul Crespin

About the Item

Hallmarked in London in 1752 by Paul Crespin, this very fine and rare example of a George II period, antique sterling silver shaving jug, is plain in design, with a flattened baluster shape, a hinged lid and a hinged cover to the spout. The shaving jug measures 7.5"(19cm) tall, by 6"(15cm) wide, by 3"(7.5cm) deep, and weighs 15.1 troy ounces. Shaving jugs from this period are rare, and often would have been part of a set with a soap box and shaving basin.

    A very good large silver swing handle basket of pierced oval form. The arched swing handle with two cast female busts arising from a leaf capped double C-scroll support.
